One of the most widely respected technical certifications in the Information Technology industry, the MCSE credential (Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer) demonstrates that one has the skills necessary to successfully design, implement, and administer the Microsoft Windows Operating System as well as Microsoft NET Enterprise Servers.

The NOVA 180-hour intensive modular MCSE 2003 Certification training program (18.0 CEUs) prepares you to:

Perform general system maintenance: The primary task of the network administrator is to ensure the overall health of the network. The data supplied by the monitoring system must be interpreted, and if necessary, acted upon.

Deal with system failures: Occasional problems are found even in the most effectively maintained network. While many problems will be minor and isolated, every so often a major problem will occur- testing not only the administrator’s expertise and troubleshooting skills, but the patience and ability to deal with stress, as every minute that a system is down can cost an organization substantial amounts of money.

Apply software updates and fixes: The modern complexity of software packages along with their need to work compatibly with a large range of products results in required updates. The proper installation of these updates is essential to ensure that systems run smoothly and effectively.

Attend to network-related PC support issues: In many cases, problems will relate to a specific workstation. Other times, a problem is related to a networking issue.

Evaluate new solutions: The versatility of computer networks means that there will always be another enhancement to the network. This extra functionality often involves products that will change the layout of the network and could potentially affect the operation of other components. For this reason, any proposed solution must be tested fully, and the results of these tests fully documented.

Document systems: One of the most overlooked and least popular activities of all network administration tasks is documentation. Besides providing a reference point for the configuration of the network, documentation is an invaluable resource when: troubleshooting problems, investigating network related issues, and planning upgrades to the system or introducing new products. The dynamic nature of the network means that the process of updating system documentation is an ongoing one.

Perform backups: Also referred to as a disaster recovery measure, backing up system data is probably one of the most important tasks performed each day. Most modern backup systems are highly automated, and the maintenance and checking of the system is very important. In addition, network administrators periodically restore data from a back up to ensure that the system is working as it should, and that the restored data can be used in the event of a failure.

Maintain hardware: While much of a network administrator’s work is software related, a solid knowledge of computer hardware is also required. Tasks performed by a network administrator will range from upgrading or replacing individual components to replacing an entire PC.

Implement Security Measures: Outbound access for typical client services and applications, such as Web access, e-mail, Telnet, FTP, virtual private networking (VPN), remote desktop management, Instant Messaging, and access control policies are some of the security-related measures performed by the Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer.
